The rumors that Neil Young was going to be headlining an area 50th anniversary concert tribute to the Woodstock Music Festival turned out to be just that…rumors.
The Gazette reported Wednesday that there were doubts that the singer was going to appear at the festival in Marion on August 18th, as the date wasn’t listed on Young’s official website, the website provided by the promoter didn’t exist, and the record company the show was supposedly booked with has never released a Neil Young record.
Jim Jacobmeyer, president of the non-profit Artisan’s Sanctuary putting on the event, sent an e-mail to the Gazette the afternoon the story was posted and confirmed that Young was indeed not coming.
The email said, “I just received an email from Lookout Management saying they are the sole representatives of Neil Young and that Neil is not scheduled to perform at our event. I will pass along this info to the general public and refund any ticket sales that were made based on Neil Young’s performance. We will replace him with another artist.”
Jacobmeyer told the paper that he booked the show by working with someone named Doris Ramey, and the contact information from a signed agreement identified her as a representative agent with MoTown Records, capitalizing Town. The e-mail contact was listed as NeilYoungTours.org@gmail.com, which doesn’t exist, and the phone number belongs to a Google subscriber. The actual Motown Records doesn’t use a capital T and has never represented Neil Young.
Still, the show will go on, at Lowe Park’s Klopfenstein Amphitheater, on August 18th starting at 4pm. Artists that will perform include local favorites Winterland and the Beaker Brothers, along with Zoot & Newt Band, Boy-Scout Hippies and Moving Target.
