Another Democrat has announced their intention to run for Iowa’s 2nd District representative.

Newman Abuissa formally announced his intention to run Sunday; he hope to take retiring representative Dave Loebsack’s seat.

Abuissa is a native of Damascus Syria and became a US Citizen 25 years ago. He’s currently the chair of the international affairs subcommittee of the platform committee for the Iowa Democratic party.

The other Democrat who has announced so far is former state senator Rita Hart. Republican Thomas Kedley, mayor of Osceola, previously filed for the seat but has since pulled out of the race.
