Scattering his wife’s belongings throughout his neighborhood during an argument has led to charges against a Solon man.
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic disturbance on Randall Drive just after 7:15 Saturday morning. An investigation determined that 41-year-old Benjamin Hanks got mad at his wife for not paying bills and began throwing her clothing around the yard. Hanks also allegedly threw clothing from the couple’s two children, as well as a laptop. Investigators say Hanks frightened his children by ripping clothing out of their hands.
Some items were found as far as 40 yards away from the residence on Windam Drive.
Hanks’ wife took the children and locked them and herself in their car until deputies could arrive.
Hanks allegedly refused to allow arriving officers into the house, and recorded them on his cellphone. They eventually entered the house using a key given to them by Hanks’ wife.
Hanks’ wife said he had not touched her on this occasion, but he had done so in the past.
Hanks is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, Interference with Official Acts and Disorderly Conduct. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 90 days in jail.
