Swimmers are again cautioned about swimming in Lake MacBride, this time after high levels of E. coli were found in the water.
On June 21st swimmers were warned to stay out of the water after tests showed higher toxin levels in the water. The toxins were due to algae blooms.
Water samples taken on Tuesday came back Friday confirming the algae toxin levels had dipped back to safe levels.
But the water tested on Tuesday also showed higher than normal levels of E. coli. Park managers told The Cedar Rapids Gazette the higher levels are likely due to goose feces near the beach.
Residents can track the latest tests at all Iowa beaches by searching Beach Monitoring at www.iowadnr.gov.
