Allegedly threatening to kill and dismember an Iowa City Police officer has led to a Cedar Rapids man’s arrest.

50-year-old Scott Colebank of A Avenue Northeast was being treated at Mercy Hospital just after 5pm Saturday when he allegedly became belligerent in the emergency room. After allegedly threatening staff, Colebank was told he was being discharged. As he was leaving, Colebank allegedly became belligerent and threatened to fight police officers who were at the ER for another reason.

Police say Colebank showed multiple signs of intoxication, combative behavior and lack of reasoning. He was arrested for Public Intoxication – 3rd or Subsequent Offense.

On his way to the Johnson County Jail, Colebank allegedly went into great detail about how he would locate the arresting officer, murder him by shooting him in the head, then cut him into pieces so his body would never be found.

Colebank now faces an additional charge of 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted of both charges, he faces a maximum of four years in prison.

This is not Colebank’s first arrest at a hospital. In June of last year he was arrested at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for fighting with other patients. Earlier this month he was arrested after threatening staff and throwing food around at the Riverside Drive McDonald’s.
