Osceola mayor Thomas Kedley has pulled out of the 2nd District Congressional race.

Kedley, a Republican, said in a news release he feels he can do more at the local and state level. He added he plans to run for a state office, but did not clarify which office that might be.

That leaves no declared Republicans running for Representative Dave Loebsack’s seat, although that will likely change in the weeks ahead.

Iowa City transportation engineer Newman Abuissa and former state senator Rita Hart are running on the Democratic side. Former Illinois Congressman Bobby Schilling, who now lives in LeClaire, has said he may enter the race as well.

Loebsack has announced he will not seek another term.
