Two people have been arrested after one of two Friday night shootings in Iowa City.

Iowa City Police say 23-year-old Delorian Banks of Broadway Street arrived at 1102 Hollywood Boulevard just before 11:30 Friday night in a Silver Mitsubishi Galant, driving with his lights off. He allegedly shot several rounds at several people standing in the parking lot, striking at least one vehicle.

Several 9mm shell casings and a magazine belonging to a Smith & Wesson handgun were found at the scene, and the car was recorded on surveillance video.

During the investigation officers stopped a suspicious car near the corner of Taylor Drive and Tracy Lane. One of the occupants, 38-year-old Yureko Johnson of Taylor Drive, fled from the vehicle after officers discovered he had a warrant for his arrest. Johnson was apprehended after a brief foot chase. Police say he resisted arrest and had to be tasered. He’s charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with Intent or While Displaying a Weapon, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Interference with Official Acts. He faces a maximum of  over three years in prison, if convicted.

Just after 2am Saturday Banks was located at the Waterfront Hy-Vee after a report of a fight in the parking lot. A handgun missing its magazine could be seen on the back floorboard of a Pontiac G6 in which Banks had been a passenger. It matched the magazine found at the scene of the shooting. A spent 9mm shell casing was also found on the back driver side floorboard.

Witnesses stated they saw Banks fire shots, and that he and a co-defendant were in the Galant at the time of the shooting.

Banks is charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Going Armed with Intent, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Reckless Use of a Firearm, and Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 27 years in prison.

The ICPD also responded to a report of shots fired on the 200 block of East Benton Street at approximately 8pm Friday.

Friday night’s shootings are the fourth and fifth reported in the city in just over a week. Earlier on Friday a 15-year-old was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm in connection with a shooting on 1200 block of Baker Street on Thursday, June 13th.

The ICPD is also continuing its investigation into two shots fired incidents last Monday, including at 12:45am near the intersection of Benton and Michael Streets and at 3:13am near the intersection of Wayne and Arthur Streets.
