Iowa City Police responded to two more reports of shots fired Friday night, this time on Benton Street and Hollywood Boulevard.
According to an ICPD news release, officers responded to the first incident on the 200 block of East Benton Street at approximately 8pm Friday after receiving multiple reports of gunshots being fired in the area.
The second incident was reported at approximately 11:28pm, when Iowa City police officers responded to the 1100 block of Hollywood Boulevard after receiving multiple reports of gunshots being fired there.
The involved parties in both incidents were reported by witnesses to have left the area prior to officers’ arrivals. Investigators were able to locate and collect potential evidence from the area, including shell casings.
Police say the investigation is still in its early stages and ongoing. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
Nearby residents with security cameras are asked to review their recordings and contact Iowa City Police at 319-356-5276 with any potential footage or information.
Friday night’s shootings are the fourth and fifth reported in the city in just over a week. Earlier on Friday a 15-year-old was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm in connection with a shooting on 1200 block of Baker Street on Thursday, June 13th. Just after 5:45 that evening police received reports of gunshots being fired from one car at another occupied car. The two cars involved were located a few days later…one of which was found near the site of Friday night’s Benton Street shooting.
The ICPD is also continuing its investigation into two shots fired incidents last Monday. The first report occurred at 12:45am near the intersection of Benton and Michael Streets, near the area of Friday night’s first shooting. The reporting person stated that one of his van windows was damaged by a gunshot while he was inside his vehicle.
The second report Monday came at 3:13am when emergency calls came in regarding multiple gunshots heard near the intersection of Wayne and Arthur Streets.
