The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the University of Iowa has paid a contractor over a long running dispute on construction of the school’s football practice center.
A jury ruled in February that A&P Samuels Group was owed $2.3 million for their work on the first phase of the facility after they alleged breach of contract.
The University had asked for a new trial, claiming evidence errors and allowing jury prejudice. The court requested supporting documents for the new trial by Monday.
However, after the school recently lost cases against two contractors on the Stead Family Children’s Hospital construction project– Merit Construction and Modern Piping –the University settled with A&P Samuels on April 10th and paid the awarded figure.
The Gazette reports that the UI also satisfied their debt with Merit Construction on Friday. A jury had awarded them nearly $10 million.
