Allegedly turning over a downtown Iowa City dumpster and throwing a sign into the side of a car has led to a Benton County man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police officers say just after 12:30 Friday morning they observed 22-year-old Kane Adcock of Watkins and others tipping over a dumpster in the alley next to Pints on South Clinton Street. The officers made contact with Adcock, who allegedly tried to flee when they attempted to take him into custody.

Adcock showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking all night, and refused breath testing. Investigators say he was later overheard on his speakerphone talking to a friend who said he should have run from the police.

Just before 2am the owner of a nearby vehicle contacted police to report damage from a sign Adcock had allegedly thrown at his car. The sign had punched a hole in the sheet metal on the driver’s side rear door, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage.

Adcock is charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, Interference with Official Acts, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
