A North Liberty man was taken into custody over the weekend after allegedly breaking into an apartment building.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 4am Sunday on Sadler Lane.  56-year-old David Woods of Highway 965 was located inside the building despite not being a resident. According to police, he locked himself inside the sprinkler room and was taken into custody after officers forced entry.

A bag was reportedly found in the sprinkler room with five broken sprinkler heads in it that Woods stated were originally in his possession.  Police accused Woods of damaging the sprinkler heads, valued at $200 apiece; he also allegedly caused about $200 in damage to drywall in the building.

Woods was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree Burglary and 3rd degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
