A reported assault and vandalism have led to the arrest of an Iowa City man who allegedly consumed an entire bottle of vodka.
Iowa City Police were called to a residence on Oakcrest Street just before 1:30 Saturday morning after neighbors reported yelling and glass breaking. Arriving officers found a victim who had a swollen bottom lip and a red left cheek. The woman stated she had been struck by 24-year-old Jihad Fair of Amber Lane. Witnesses say the blow knocked her to the ground. Fair had also allegedly punched a bedroom window multiple times, breaking the glass.
When investigators found Fair, he allegedly showed signs of intoxication. He reportedly admitted to consuming an entire 375 ml bottle of Hawkeye Vodka.
Fair is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
