A newly released report predicts Iowa would lose $1 billion in gross domestic product if federal government plans to cut funding to SNAP and Medicaid are implemented.

CBS2 reports the study, from Commonwealth Fund and the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health estimates a loss of nearly 10,000 jobs in the Hawkeye state.

The losses are just a fraction of the national predictions of 1 million job cuts and state GDPs falling by $113 billion.

Researchers say the cuts to SNAP and Medicaid could cause a ripple effect where healthcare providers and food suppliers would have to reduce jobs and services. This would lead to less spending with declining jobs and wages.
