The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the Peninsula Neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
According an ICFD news release, crews responded to 205 Taft Speedway just before 12:45 p.m. after dispatchers received a report of smoke and fire coming from the roof of the home. One person was trapped on the roof of the two-story home, and one person was trapped inside. Crews arrived on the scene and encountered fire coming from the attic and roof of the home. Observers assisted occupants in getting off the roof and out of the home prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Responding firefighters brought the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival. The fire was extinguished at 1:23 p.m. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The fire, which caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office.
