An arrest has been made in a months-old North Liberty hit-and-run case.
According to the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, 25-year-old Ta’Gian Hughes of Savannah Drive has been charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Injury, and Operating Under the Influence – 2nd Offense. He has a previous OWI conviction in Texas.
On November 15th of last year, a 21-year old man from Urbandale sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Jeep driven by Hughes while crossing the 800 block of West Penn Street just before 9:45 p.m. Hughes left the scene of the crash, but was found later. The victim sustained head injuries and spent an extended period of time in the ICU and is still recovering.
Hughes admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking before driving, and using MDMA and alprazolam earlier in the week. He provided a breath sample that showed a .026 bbeath alcohol content. A sample of his urine tested positive for THC, MDMA, and alprazolam.
If convicted on all counts, Hughes faces a maximum of nine years in prison.
