Allegedly stealing an electric scooter from an Iowa City apartment complex, then riding it to the city’s winter shelter, has led to the arrest of a local transient.
Iowa City Police say just before 6:15 Thursday night 48-year-old Carl White took a $600 electric scooter that was parked outside of the Iowa-Illinois Manor on East Burlington Street and rode it away. The reporting party was able to track it to the winter shelter on Southgate Avenue. The scooter and White were both at the shelter when police arrived, and video shows him arriving on the device earlier.
Police say White admitted to “finding” the scooter downtown. He’s charged with 4th Degree Theft, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
