An employee at the Casey’s in Solon faces a felony charge after allegedly stealing a lottery ticket while he was on-duty.

46-year-old Scotty Carpenter of North Towne Court in Cedar Rapids was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 3:00 Monday afternoon. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Carpenter was working at the Casey’s on Market Street just before midnight on January 30th when he grabbed a $10 scratch ticket, checked to see if it was a winner, then threw it away. When Casey’s management noticed the lottery ticket count was off, they checked the security video and saw Carpenter’s alleged actions.

Carpenter is charged with Theft of Lottery Tickets. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
