Scammers are threatening to turn in Spanish-speaking Johnson County residents to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they refuse to pay a set price.
A screencap of one such text exchange shared with KCJJ is from someone claiming ICE was coming to the recipient’s mobile home park. The message…written entirely in Spanish…then tells the target that if she paid them $60 they would “protect” her. After a brief exchange where the recipient refuses to pay, the scammer then texts the person their home address and says they will pass her information on to ICE.
ICE says it will never text and demand money. Anyone receiving such a text should just ignore it or contact law enforcement.
