An Iowa City man wanted after failing to report back to a residential correctional facility last month faces additional charges after allegedly fighting with police during his arrest.

Officers located 29-year-old Ryan Mellor of Gilbert Court at the Coralville Walmart Friday just before 7:30pm. After being placed under arrest, he was told to walk out to the officer’s squad car, but he allegedly resisted arrest by refusing to walk outside and dropping to his knees.  Mellor fought officers and had to be carried outside.

While being placed in the squad car, he allegedly spit towards officers.

Mellor was originally charged with 1st degree Harassment and 3rd degree Criminal Mischief and given a suspended sentence January 17th.  He was ordered to report to the Coralville Work Release  correctional facility and made arrangements to arrive January 29th, but never showed up.

Mellor faces charges of Assault on persons in Certain Occupations, and Interference with Official Acts. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted; he also faces additional charges for violating his probation agreement.
