A Coralville man faces multiple charges after an alleged domestic incident that occurred while he was driving Friday afternoon.

Police say 28-year-old Drew Leehey of Holiday Road was traveling southbound on Interstate 380 near the 8 mile marker at around 5:30pm when he was driving erratically and nearly hit a semi. He then allegedly took the phone from the woman in the passenger seat, accusing her of contacting the police.  He also reportedly raised his hands at the woman, causing her to fear possible bodily injury.

Leehey reportedly told a trooper that pulled him over at a nearby Kum & Go that the woman had started looking to purchase a vehicle, which sparked the argument.  A minor female was in the second row of Leehey’s Chevy Equinox the entire time and recorded the interaction on her IPad.

The trooper allegedly found a small amount of suspected meth under the driver’s seat.  Additionally, Leehey reportedly dropped a bag containing a glass pipe in the lobby of the convenience store which contained a burnt substance consistent with methamphetamine.

Leehey has two previous domestic abuse convictions from 2021 and 2022. He was charged with his third offense, along with Child Endangerment, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a third offense Controlled Substance violation, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Leehey could be sentenced to up to over twelve years in prison.
