The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was found in Lake Macbride and later pronounced dead.
The man was identified Monday afternoon as 85-year-old Jack Peacock of Cedar Rapids. No other new details have been released.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, just after 8:45 Saturday morning the Joint Emergency Communications Center received a call from a passerby on the walking trail near the main boat ramp at Lake Macbride State Park. The caller reported seeing a pair of gloves on the ice, as well as broken ice, and was concerned someone had fallen through.
Arriving first responders found Peacock in the lake. Members of the Solon Fire Department donned ice rescue suits and were able to remove him from the water. Peacock was transported by ambulance to University of Iowa Health Care on Hawkins Drive, but he did not survive. It is unknown how long he was under water.
The incident is under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
