An Iowa City man wanted on a number of charges was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly being involved in a domestic incident.
Police responded to the residence of 26-year-old Chamar Richardson at around 10:30am on reports of people fighting and slamming doors. Upon arrival, Richardson and a woman were allegedly arguing about a social media post. The officer noticed a scratch or bruise on the armpit of the woman when she was being interviewed. Richardson reportedly admitted to grabbing her because he didn’t want her to leave the apartment.
A check of Richardson’s criminal record showed a January 30th warrant on multiple charges. He allegedly was able to convince a woman victim to give him her banking information, claiming that he could make her some quick money. Richardson then reportedly deposited three forged checks in the woman’s account between August 23rd and 26th, totaling over $6700. He then drove the victim to the bank on August 24th and she withdrew $3500, which was given to Richardson.
Messages on Richardson’s phone allegedly showed him conspiring with another individual to deposit the forged checks and facilitate the split of the fraudulently obtained funds.
Detectives executed a search warrant on Richardson’s residence on September 23rd in regards to the forgery investigation and a separate narcotics case. Officers reportedly found over 37 grams of flower marijuana and over 125 grams of marijuana “Candy Blasters.” A personally made firearm was also discovered.
Richardson’s phone allegedly contained numerous messages about distribution and sale of marijuana to numerous individuals.
He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault for Saturday’s incident; with the additional charges of Conspiracy to commit a non-forcible Felony, 2nd degree Theft, Forgery and a Controlled Substance violation, Richardson now faces a prison sentence of up to 21 years.
