Iowa City Police say a man who interfered in one of their investigations also threatened an officer.

Arrest records indicate officers were in the parking lot of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street just before 11:45 Monday night to talk to a witness about a previous incident when 22-year-old Town & Campus resident Marlos Bishop ran up to check on the person being interviewed. Police say he smelled of alcohol as he stood next to the witness and would not let the officer conduct a proper interview.

Bishop eventually complied with requests to step back, but he allegedly began yelling so loudly at an assisting officer that the first officer could not hear the witness. Bishop was eventually arrested after reportedly refusing commands to go back to his apartment. Police say Bishop kept yelling in the squad car as he was being taken to the Johnson County Jail, including at one point stating, “Bitch, die with your bitch ass.”

Bishop is charged with Public Intoxication, Interference With Official Acts, and 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 26 months in jail.
