As expected, community housing advocate Oliver Weilein and local businessman Ross Nusser advanced to next month’s general election to fill a vacated seat on the Iowa City City Council.

Weilein earned 641 votes, or 69% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary. Nusser garnered 248 votes, or 27%. Sharon DeGraw, who dropped out of the race last week but whose name remained on the ballot, received 40 votes. That’s good for 4%.

The three were running to fill the District C council seat vacated by Andrew Dunn as of January 1st. Only residents of the district were able to vote in Tuesday’s election, although all Iowa City voters can cast their ballots in the March 4th election between Weilein and Nusser.
