IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa sophomore Owen Freeman will have finger surgery (right hand) on Monday and miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season, it was announced by head coach Fran McCaffery.
“After discussions with Owen, his family and our medical staff, surgery is the best course of treatment in terms of proper healing and rehabilitation,” said McCaffery. “We expect Owen to make a full recovery. He has the full support of his teammates and coaches during this entire process.”
Freeman started 19 games, where he averaged team-highs in points (16.7), rebounds (6.7) and blocks (35), while shooting 63.8 percent from the floor. The Moline, Illinois, native is the only Hawkeye to score in double figures in every game this season. He had four 20-point games and a team-high three double-doubles.
Iowa (13-8, 4-6) returns to action Tuesday, hosting No. 10 Purdue at 6 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
