A Cedar Rapids man is accused of contacting the protected party in a no-contact order against him dozens of times in Iowa City.
38-year-old Darrian Jefferson of Bel Air Drive SW was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:30 Monday morning. Iowa City Police say Jefferson was arrested on December 7th after he caught the attention of officers because he was illegally parked in a handicapped spot outside Gabe’s on East Washington Street. The car reportedly smelled of marijuana, and a search allegedly turned up marijuana and a firearm. Jefferson was charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuser, Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2nd Offense, and Violating of a Protective Order. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
Iowa City Police now say a check of Jefferson’s cellphone turned up dozens of texts between him and a protected party in a no-contact order. He now faces 51 counts of Violation of a Protective Order.
