Iowa City Police are seeking a person of interest in a downtown assault that occurred late last year.
As KCJJ first reported on January 18th, 22-year-old Ryan Maschmann and 21-year-old Landan Provino…both of whom live in Wayland…allegedly joined another suspect in attacking a person on the 100 block of East College Street just before 12:15 on the morning of December 14th. Provino allegedly held the victim’s arms behind their back as one of the other men struck the person in the face. Police say once the victim was on the ground, the three attackers punched, kicked and stomped the victim into unconsciousness.
The victim suffered injuries including a broken nose, a broken finger, lacerations to the ear and lip that required stitches, facial bruising and injuries, elbow and knee abrasions, and a laceration to the back of the head.
Maschmann and Provino are both charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury and Participating in a Riot. If convicted on both counts, they each face a maximum of ten years in prison.
