Residents at an Iowa City mobile home park have gone without water since Sunday.
One resident of the Modern Manor manufactured housing community told KCRG TV-9 that he has three children under the age of five who have been forced to defecate and urinate in plastic bags. He’s also been forced to drive in water from West Branch in order for the family to brush their teeth and do dishes. Residents are also concerned that fire hydrants wouldn’t be functional in case of a fire at the complex.
The residents who spoke to Channel 9 said life at Modern Manor has gone downhill since it was purchased by Havenpark Communities in 2022. They say while the cost of rent has gone up, amenities such as lawn care and snow removal have been neglected.
Havenpark issued a statement to KCRG stating that the loss of water was due to a broken pump. The company said a new pump was installed Tuesday morning, but one of the affected families told the television station that the water came back briefly at about 4:45 Tuesday afternoon but stopped working again about a half-hour later.
