High speed chase leads to arrest of Cedar Rapids man in Johnson County

An attempt at a traffic stop in Ely led to a high-speed chase that ended in Johnson County.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, a Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on State Street near Rowley Street in Ely for going 40 in a 30 miles per hour zone just after 11pm Saturday.

The vehicle reportedly accelerated away, leading to a pursuit southbound on Ely Road where speeds allegedly reached over 100 miles per hour before entering Johnson County.

The vehicle, still traveling at a high rate of speed, then reportedly failed to negotiate the roundabout at Ely Road and Highway 382, west of Solon. The vehicle was subsequently disabled.

The driver, identified as 47-year-old Adam Chartier of Cedar Rapids, fled on foot. He was located after a brief search and taken to the Linn County Correctional Center for Eluding, meth possession, unlawful possession of prescription drug, failure to use Drug Tax Stamp, a controlled substance violation, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic charges. He could be sentenced to over 18 years in prison if convicted on the charges facing him.

A passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Haleigh Feaker, was charged with Meth possession and warrants for a September incident when she was charged with Driving While Barred, a second offense controlled substance violation, and possession of drug paraphernalia.   If convicted on all counts, Feaker could be sentenced to over five  years in prison.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Rapids Police, and the Iowa State Patrol .
