Allegedly making threats against a University of Iowa Health Care worker has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

45-year-old Joe Lewis Nunley of Bittersweet Court was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:15 Saturday night. UI Police say last summer Nunley became upset about the care being provided to his mother at the UIHC Hawkins Drive facility. At about 2:00 on the morning of September 5th Nunley called the unit in which his mother was being treated and allegedly told the employee working at the desk, “I am going to come there and kill you.”

The person who took the call reported to police that they were scared for their safety and the safety of those in the unit.

When confronted, Nunley reportedly denied making any threats to UIHC staff, then allegedly threatened to physically assault the UI Police officer with whom he was speaking.

Nunley is charged with 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
