A lifelong Iowa City resident whose family business has roots tracing back to the 1850s has announced his candidacy for City Council.
In a media release, Ross Nusser is running for the District C seat open due to the resignation of council member Andrew Dunn.
Nusser co-founded Urban Acres Real Estate, and his family’s business, Hands Jewelers, has been in business downtown since 1853.
Nusser says if elected, he will focus his energies on mental and behavioral health, substance use treatment, affordable housing, and locally sourced food. He is currently President of the Board of Directors for Community and Family Resources.
He previously served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Housing Fellowship, was a committee member on the Johnson County Comprehensive Plan Committee, and a Commissioner for the Johnson County Compensation Commission.
