An Iowa City man was charged with theft after an incident at the Lower Muscatine Road Laundromania Saturday morning.

According to the police report, 32-year-old Xavier Turner of Ash Street was at the laundromat at approximately 11:51 am when he allegedly was observed on video surveillance taking a ring of keys.

Police located Turner about two hours later with 9 of the stolen keys reportedly still on his person. Turner had removed the keys from their original ring, but they were identified by engraved marks. He was also allegedly wearing the same clothing observed on the video.

A check of Turner’s criminal record showed two previous theft convictions. He was charged with 3rd degree theft and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
