Allegedly using a rented U-Haul in the commission of burglaries in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area, then not returning it, has led to the arrest of an Anamosa man.

Iowa City Police say 20-year-old Tucker Trevarthen of the Fairview Terrace manufactured housing community rented the U-Haul from Harris Boyz Auto on South Riverside Drive on September 24th. It was supposed to be returned later that day, but instead Trevarthen allegedly used the vehicle to commit various crimes, including an Iowa City burglary and several thefts in Linn County. The U-Haul was later found abandoned in Cedar Rapids with several items inside that appeared to be stolen.

Trevarthen was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after midnight Christmas morning. Police say he and another person stole several items from a vehicle parked at U-Haul Moving and Storage of Iowa City on Highway 1 West later on the same day they rented the U-Haul from Harris Boyz. They then allegedly went to several area businesses with credit and debit cards stolen from the vehicle and used them to make several hundred dollars in purchases.

Travarthen, who has a previous burglary conviction out of Iowa County, is charged with 2nd Degree Theft, 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle – 2nd or Subsequent Offense, and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
