A barred and revoked driver was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving near the Coralville Reservoir after he allegedly took over driving duties for a friend who was too intoxicated.
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a 2011 Kia Sorento that was speeding at 71 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Highway 965 near Croy Road, on the north shore of Coralville Lake and the Iowa River, just after 4:30 Sunday afternoon. The driver, 29-year-old Dalton Truesdell of Marion, currently has a license that is barred until 2026 and revoked until 2028.
Truesdell reportedly told deputies that he was driving because the passenger who was supposed to be driving was too intoxicated. An empty beer can was found inside the vehicle, and investigators say Truesdell showed signs of intoxication and refused breath testing. He has previous Operating While Intoxicated convictions out of Johnson, Linn and Jasper counties.
Truesdell was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Driving While Barred, Driving While Revoked, Operating Without an Interlock Device, and Speeding. He also has an outstanding warrant out of Wisconsin. If convicted on all counts, Truesdell faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
