A Johnson County Jail inmate was charged with criminal mischief after destroying property while in custody.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:47am Sunday and reportedly involved 30-year-old William Hebets of North Dodge Street, who has been incarcerated since November 4th . Staff heard a pounding noise and reviewed surveillance video. They allegedly saw Hebets repeatedly punching a computer kiosk within the cell block, used by inmates for various things.

The kiosk was reportedly rendered useless and will cost at least $1500 to replace.

When confronted, Hebets said he committed the act because he felt he wasn’t being fed enough.

Hebets previously faced charges of Domestic Abuse Assault, 3rd or subsequent offense; Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow; Child Endangerment; and violation of a No-Contact Order. With the additional charge of 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, he could be sentenced to a combined prison term of 17 years if convicted on all counts.
