A Tiffin man has been arrested after a single-vehicle crash in southwest Johnson County.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a 2015 Nissan Rogue being driven by 28-year-old Roland Garcia of Village Drive went off the roadway on the 2700 block of Black Diamond Road…between Windham and Highway 1…just before 2:15 Thursday morning. The vehicle went into a ditch, hit a field driveway, went airborne, and came to rest about 25 yards from where it initially left the road. The car was broken into several pieces.
Garcia, the sole occupant, made contact with the owners of a residence about 100 yards from the crash site. They told Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies that Garcia was bloody and smelled of alcohol. Arriving deputies agreed that Garcia showed signs of intoxication, and he was taken to a local hospital. Garcia, who has a previous drunk driving conviction out of Texas, reportedly provided a breath alcohol level that was above the legal limit for driving.
Garcia was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:00 Friday night and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Failure to Maintain Control.
