A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested for an incident last month where he allegedly committed an assault in downtown Iowa City.
Police say just before 2am November 16th, 21-year-old Joshua Standefer of Rock Ridge Road NW was on the 100 block of East College Street when he allegedly struck the victim in the face with a single punch.
Standefer’s punch knocked the man to the ground; he suffered a broken nose that was fractured in numerous spots and obstructed his airway. The injury required surgery to repair the damage.
Video footage of the assault showed that the victim’s hands were in his pockets and he was not displaying any threat toward Standefer.
A warrant was issued on Tuesday; Standefer was in court Thursday and was issued a no-contact order by Judge Brandon Schrock. He faces a charge of Assault causing Serious Injury and could be sentenced to up to five years in prison if convicted.
Standefer was released to the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services pending arraignment.
