An Iowa City man has been charged with 71 counts of contempt after allegedly calling the subject of a no-contact order dozens of times while in the Johnson County Jail.
28-year-old Deandre Davis was taken into custody on a Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow charge August 11th. A judge issued a no-contact order the next day that prohibits him from contacting the protected party either directly or indirectly.
The Johnson County Attorney’s office claims in court documents that while in custody, Davis called the protected party 69 times and attempted to call her an additional 360 times. He allegedly made accusations towards the protected party and threatened consequences for her when he gets out of jail, reportedly saying, “Remember how you’re acting when I get out.”
Davis is now being held without bond pending an initial appearance. He has a case management conference scheduled for the assault charge on January 13th, with pretrial conferences on February 7th and trial on February 11th.
Davis is also due in court on OWI and drug charges from an incident on March 23rd that comes with a maximum sentence of 34 years if convicted. A case management conference is scheduled for January 24th.
