Two convenience store employees were charged with providing tobacco products to a person under the age of 21 during a tobacco compliance check by Coralville Police.

According to a release from the Department, officers conducted tobacco compliance checks at 25 Coralville businesses Monday. 23 of the businesses refused to sell tobacco products to an under-aged person. Employees of two businesses, the Depot Express on Oakdale Boulevard, and the Casey’s on the Coralville Strip, sold to the under-age person.

24-year-old Jacob English of Tiffin, and 24-year-old Alaura Ortiz of Washington were ticketed for violating the ordinance.

The Coralville Police Department will be conducting similar compliance checks for alcohol and tobacco sales to underage persons again in the near future. The release says checks will continue periodically throughout the year.
