A Coralville man has been taken into custody after an alleged bicycle theft earlier this year.
Authorities say at around 5pm on September 28th, the victim reported that their red and white Specialized Tri-Cross bike valued at $5000 had been stolen from the bike racks at the foot of the stairs on North Riverside Drive , east of the College of Public Health.
Security cameras allegedly showed 32-year-old Willie Collins of 21st Avenue Place riding up on a Huffy bike, cutting the lock on the victim’s bike, and riding the bike away.
The abandoned bike was dusted for fingerprints; a latent print was sent to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, who identified it as matching a print on file of Collins.
An arrest warrant was issued on Ocober 14th; Collins was taken into custody Monday afternoon and charged with 2nd degree Theft. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
