A date has been set for a special election to enact a Local Option Sales Tax in Swisher.
The Johnson County Auditor’s Office announced on Friday that the election will take place on March 4th. The 1% tax would go into effect on July 1st, with 50% earmarked for property tax relief. According to the language of the proposal, the other 50% would be used for, “any lawful purpose including, but not limited to, public safety, parks and recreation, public infrastructure, and economic development.”
Earlier this week, the City of Iowa City set a special election for the same day to determine a replacement for Iowa City city councilor Andrew Dunn, who is resigning as of January 1st.
