The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a central Iowa man put a tracking device in a Tiffin woman’s purse without her knowledge.

27-year-old Drake Davis of Des Moines was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 10:15 Wednesday night. Investigators say Davis and the alleged victim had been dating and living together in Tiffin, but recently separated. On June 21st Davis allegedly took an Apple AirTag from his keychain and placed it in the woman’s purse without her knowledge. It remained there for three days until Davis reportedly told the woman what he had done.

Davis is accused of assaulting the woman at her residence a few days later on June 30th. The woman was holding Davis’ PlayStation when he allegedly took it back by force and pushed her to the floor. Deputies say the woman suffered bruising, and the attack only stopped when a mutual friend arrived on the scene and called 9-1-1.

Davis is charged with Unauthorized Placement of a Global Positioning Device and Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
