Allegedly selling drugs to a minor near a park could lead to decades in prison for an Iowa City man.

Iowa City Police say just before 10:15 Tuesday night 18-year-old Blake Werderitsch of Kyle Drive was observed rolling a marijuana blunt while in the passenger seat of a 2005 Honda Accord parked along the 600 block of South Dodge Street. A search of the vehicle turned up a black backpack at Werderitsch’s feet that contained multiple re-sealable packages of marijuana totaling 23.31 grams. A digital scale with residue was found in the pocket of a passenger-side door, and a grinder with marijuana residue was located in the cup holder.

Werderitsch reportedly admitted the backpack belonged to him. He also allegedly told police he had met the driver of the vehicle, a minor, in order to sell him drugs. The vehicle was parked near Oak Grove Park at the time of the reported transaction.

Werderitsch is charged with Distributing Drugs Near a School or Park, a Controlled Substance Violation, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 30 years in prison.
