A Coralville man is accused of threatening another person while wielding a knife outside a convenience store.

24-year-old Jaquon Hemphill of 9th Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2:00 Tuesday morning. Coralville Police say Hemphill was arguing with another subject outside Casey’s on The Coralville Strip just before 10:30 on the night of October 13th when he said something to the effect of, “I got something for y’all” and grabbed a knife with an eight-inch blade.  Hemphill allegedly approached the other person in an aggressive manner while holding onto the knife as he kept it hidden in the pocket of his hoodie.

Security video reportedly shows Hemphill discarding the knife once police arrived. It was recovered, and Hemphill is now charged with Going Armed With Intent and Carrying Weapons While Intoxicated. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
