The city of Iowa City has earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index.
The index is a nationwide assessment of LGBTQ+ equality in the areas of policies, laws, and services. It provides a public snapshot of how committed a given city or town is to LGBTQ+ equality along with a comprehensive framework for mayors, councilors, and administrators nationwide, to safeguard the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ residents and staff.
Iowa City earned a perfect score of 100 this year. Other cities in Iowa with perfect scores include Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque and West Des Moines. The lowest-scoring city in Iowa was Sioux City with 77.
