Iowa City Police say a woman accused of domestic assault told them the injuries to the victim were the result of “intimate relations”.
Arrest records indicate 38-year-old transient Belinda Sigsbury defied a no-contact order when she arrived at the protected party’s 3rd Avenue residence just after 5:30 Thursday night. Arriving officers say they saw Sigsbury talking to the man in close proximity. They also say the protected party had fresh scratches on his neck and side and a bruise on his bicep. Sigsbury allegedly told police that the two were having “intimate relations” when she put her hands around the man’s neck and choked him, scratching him in the process. The protected party had a different version of events.
Sigsbury is now charged with Assault Against a Protected Party Causing Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault – 2nd Offense, and a No-Contact Order Violation. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of six years in prison.
