The City of North Liberty’s plans to use their remaining American Rescue Plan Act funding on renovating locker rooms at the indoor pool has been scuttled, and they now are repurposing the money.

The Gazette reports the City Council will use the remaining $300,000 for other community center projects, to establish an economic development program with Greater Iowa City Inc., and a donation to United Action For Youth.

Local governments have until the end of this year to decide how to spend the money, and any project using the funds must be completed by 2026.

City staff recommended the council approve a $5,000 donation to United Action For Youth; a fraction of the $100,000 they requested after it failed to secure a grant.

The city would get about $200,000 for unspecified projects at the Community Center, and the rest would be used to set up a program with Greater Iowa City in partnership with city council and staff.

North Liberty received a total of $2.9 million in ARPA funds.
