A Coralville man faces multiple charges after a search of his apartment found items taken from an area box store over the course of two months.
Police say beginning in early August through September 25th, 51-year-old James Wildonger of 5th Street was identified on surveillance footage engaging in over 10 thefts from the Iowa City Menards on Naples Avenue. During the alleged incidents, Wildonger reportedly stole 25 items valued at approximately $2900 and not paying full value for the items by either switching the product codes or reboxing the items.
A search warrant was executed at Wildonger’s apartment and approximately 18 items were found that had been stolen from Menards. He reportedly admitted his full involvement in the scheme and said he used the items in his personal employment.
During the search, officers located 4 grams of a substance consistent with methamphetamine that field tested positive, along with pipes used to smoke meth.
Wildonger faces charges of 2nd degree Theft, Ongoing Criminal Conduct, Meth possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 31 years in prison.
