Cedar Rapids Police say a juvenile may be charged after issuing a threat against a school and its students.

According to a release from the city, police were alerted Monday by Cedar Rapids Community School District staff to an online threat toward Taft Middle School and students.  Investigators were able to quickly identify and interview a juvenile who admitted to making the threats.

Following further investigation, it is possible this juvenile may face charges.  The District intends to hold classes as normal today.

CRPD and CRCSD staff take threats of all kinds seriously and investigate each instance thoroughly.  In the release, they urge parents to take a moment to discuss with their student the dangers of making threats and teach them to report online and in-person threats to a trusted teacher, law enforcement officer, or parent.
