Iowa Heartlanders news release
Heartlanders rookies shine in 4-2 road win, Iowa has won three straight
Tulsa, OK – The Iowa Heartlanders received three goals from rookies and Kyle McClellan (24 saves) earned his first professional win in a 4-2 victory over the Tulsa Oilers Saturday at the BOK Center. First-year pros Ryan Miotto, Zach Dubinsky and Matthew Sop scored for Iowa, while second-year forward Gavin Hain potted an insurance goal with 9:46 to go to put Iowa up by two for good.
Miotto started the scoring at 7:19 of the first, his first of the season, plastering in a rebound at the right post. Louka Henault (2a) took a shot from the center blue line to set up the strike. On its way to the right doorstep, the puck batted off Adam Goodsir (primary assist).
After Tulsa’s Sasha Pastujov tied the game halfway through the second, the Heartlanders scored the next two late in the middle period. With 3:46 to go, Dubinsky redirected a right blue line rip from Henault for his first as a professional (Jonny Sorenson secondary assist).
Next, Sop scored his fourth of the campaign on the power play with 1:10 left in the second. Sop circled and grabbed the pass from Andrew McLean at the left circle and unleashed a top-shelf laser. Gavin Hain accounted for the secondary assist.
In the third, Pastujov pulled the Oilers within one in the final 13 minutes, 3-2, but Hain came back with a left-post nudge into the net for his first of the ECHL season two minutes later.
Vyacheslav Buteyets took the loss with 19 saves.
